How the internet has transformed marketing management

The internet has transformed marketing management several ways. Back in the days you were able to test on a monthly basis and wouldn’t know the results of your ad placements for 2 to 3 months. Now you are able to test on a daily or weekly basis and find out your results almost instantaneously. This makes the marketing industry extremely fast paced in comparison to years ago.

No longer can the marketing agencies of old grow fat on overly large budget marketing campaigns. A smart kid with a computer and a internet connection can outpace even the largest firms.

I still think it’s funny that the majority of job postings for internet marketing read that qualified person is required to have a BS or MS in Marketing. It’s laughable that they believe internet marketing can be taught in school by a person that hasn’t made a cent on the net.

My criteria is different way different, show me your Google Adsense statements, show me your campaign marketing strategies, tell me of your successes, marketing ideas, explain in simple english what you are going to try to accomplish with my company.

A degree is a great thing to have, but your life experience is worth 4x that degree.

I believe, how the internet has transformed marketing management the most is through the cost ratio to prime ad space. When purchasing ad space before you were competing for a very limited amount of space and it was usually won by the largest bidder and for a insane amount of money. By utilizing the internet you can get great prime ad space for little to nothing. You can post an ad and hope that someone will see your ad and act, or you can put money in a system that only pays for the ad if there is an action associated with your ad. I ask you where is your money best spent?

How the internet has transformed marketing management – its transformed it a great deal and there are more issues to go over. However, that will be for another day.
